Have you ever planned a road trip?
You sit down with the family and plan a road trip vacation together. Seems like a lot of fun, you have to ask many questions and log many, many answers before things are completed. The destination is probably the hardest to decide on. Below is a sample of questions that may take place:
Plan your destination and length of stay. Where are we going and for how long? An educational trip, a fun trip, a relaxing trip?
Map out the trip; Scenic route, fastest route, are we really in a hurry to get there?
Pick travelers; How many will be traveling, is there enough room or do we get a bigger vehicle?
Set up an Itinerary; do we plan on staying at different places of interest along the way?
Decide on your navigation; smart phone, vehicle GPS, need backup map?
Plan where to stay for the night; Hotel, motel, Bed & Breakfast?
Prepare the car for the trip; vehicle inspection, Maintenance Check, tires, lube, tool-box
Pack for the Road; clothing, snacks, first-aid kit
Food and drinks; where do we stop along the way?
What to do; Music & games
Breaks along the way; how long between stops?
After going through all of the above questions you ask yourself if you have enough money, time, etc… The process could take weeks or months to plan a 2 week vacation.
This is great, but, does your company spend just as much time and interest in the company’s progress? Does the company spend as much time on alternatives, safety, backup, IT, compliance, procedures and policies? Does the company board sit together to discuss Disaster Recovery, HIPAA violations, and company policies and direction? Does the company do a Risk Analysis each year? A proper risk analysis takes some time and has over 300 questions.
Two weeks of the year for a vacation is great, but the other fifty weeks should not be neglected. They are your future, it should be planned and protected.
